Uphold the precepts, be mindful of the Buddha.

 In ‘‘Rensheng zhi zuihou,’’ Hongyi follows his pithy introduction
with advice on how to respond to a critical illness.

His approach is both explanatory and practical. He speaks to the issue
of karma and urges awareness that the pain and suffering of disease
arise from karmic obstacles created in past lives, as well as actions
of this very life. With a critical illness, the issue is not to recover but
to focus the mind entirely on Amita Buddha in preparation for birth
in his Pure Land. A panicked state in which one desperately seeks to
survive is simply inappropriate. Calm and sustained concentration
on the Buddha will enable rapid recovery if that is possible, and if
not, it is the method to gain birth in the Pure Land. If the patient is
conscious, Hongyi advises that it is useful to speak to that person of
all his or her good deeds. In this way the patient is made comfortable
and confident and thus can manifest the ability to obtain auspicious
rebirth.

In'' Rensheng zhi zuihou" lässt Hongyi seiner markigen Einführung
Tipps folgen, wie man auf eine kritische Krankheit reagieren sollte.
Sein Ansatz ist sowohl verständlich als auch praktisch. Er spricht zum Thema
Karma und fordert das Bewusstsein, dass die Schmerzen und Leiden der Krankheit
sich aus karmischen Hindernissen ergeben hätten, die in vergangenen Leben 

geschaffen wären, sowie durch die Taten in diesem Leben. 

Bei einer kritischen Krankheit, ist der Punkt nicht, sich zu erholen,
sondern den Geist ganz auf Amita Buddha in Vorbereitung auf die Geburt in

seinem Reinen Land zu richten. Ein Panikzustand, in dem einer verzweifelt versucht
zu überleben ist einfach unangemessen. Ruhe und anhaltende Konzentration
auf den Buddha ermöglicht eine schnelle Genesung, wenn das möglich ist, wenn
nicht, es ist dies die Methode die Geburt im Reinen Land zu ermöglichen. 

Wenn der Patient bei Bewusstsein ist, rät Hongyi, dass es sinnvoll sei, 

mit dieser Person von allen deren guten Taten zu sprechen.
Auf diese Weise wird der Patient erleichtert und
zuversichtlich, um kann so die Fähigkeit

zu günstigen Wiedergeburt manifestierten.
